The Cisco GLC-ZX-SM Compatible 1000BASE-ZX SFP (mini-GBIC) Transceiver Module operates efficiently on standard single-mode fiber-optic (SMF) link spans of up to approximately 70 km. Designed for long-distance data transmission, this SFP transceiver offers an optical link budget of 21 dB. However, the precise link span may vary based on factors like fiber quality, the number of splices, and connectors used.
For shorter single-mode fiber distances, it is often essential to use an inline optical attenuator to prevent receiver overload. A 10-dB inline optical attenuator is recommended at each end of the link if the fiber-optic cable span loss is less than 8 dB.
